Cura Personalis : Our care to the Person

Most of us have experienced being sick. We all know that sickness is a condition that affects our whole being. It sometimes accompanied by pain and anxiety which would eventually weaken our body. We are lucky that we have our family to take good care of us in all our needs. Every time we experienced the goodness of our family and friends, we also feel the presence of Christ. For an instance, allow me to share my experience of helping my sick mother who was diagnosed with Pneumonia last year. At first she was hesitant going to the hospital, thinking everything seems to be ok.  Then days passed by, she just informed us that her situation wasn't good. At that moment, we immediately rushed her to the hospital and found out that she had a lung infection caused by bacteria. This experienced somewhat surprise our family. At the back of my mind, my mother was still in good hands because of our loving presence during her difficulties. This led me to think and ask “how about those people with no family helping during their times of sickness and loneliness? This motivates me to affirm the importance of the healing ministry of the Church and our responsibility as Children of God.

The Catholic Church is extending her ministry towards pastoral care of the sick through the sacraments of Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick and Corporal Works of Mercy. The Church primary task is to help the sick especially those who are neglected by their family. These are the people with severe illness in the hospitals, those who are blind, and with physical disabilities. These are the people who really need holistic healing and life-love encounter with us.

With the different realities of today,
What help can we concretely give to our sick brothers and sisters?
How can we extend Christ’s healing hands to them?

It is part of our responsibility as “One Body of Christ” to help and heal all the members connected to us. For if one part of the body is detach, then the rest of the body would be affected. In the same way, we are responsible to our sick brothers and sisters, since they belong to Christ’s body. If one member is sick then the rest will be affected too. We need to be hand in hand in doing Jesus’ mission. He always inspires us to become a concrete manifestation of Hope and Love to all. It is only by offering our total self to the needy that we can concretely be like Christ. So, it is a constant invitation for us to do the same.. to go beyond our comfort zone and be Christ’s voice to the peripheries.

Jesus, the Living Bread John 6:51, 54-57 I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.  Shedding the Light The Holy Eucharist is the summit of all prayers. We come together as one people of God in a special celebration of faith, love and gener

Alethialogy of the Human Person

In the book of Fr. William Malley, SJ, the term Alethialogy is derived from two Greek words: Aletheia (truth) and logia (study of) which means in simpler terms as the study of truth. In man’s journey towards seeking the truth, he must use his giftedness such as the rationality in order to unveil the truth that he is looking for. But using his rationality can never be enough, man must be able to transcend his level of reasoning into the level of genuine truth – the truth of all the truths. Then, how can man reach to the truth of all the truths? At this point, man is no longer challenge in finding the answer into the physical realms but he needs to go beyond the material world by reaching the uncreated world. This is the world in which man can only attain through spiritualization. Man must be able to communicate to his ultimate maker – the Creator of heavens and of earth. This must be God as what St Thomas Aquinas would try to elaborate on his book: Proofs of God’s Existence. In the b

Divine Mercy Sunday

Have you ever thought about how much God loves us?   The love of God for us is beyond our imagination. His love is transformative, changing His beloved into a new creation. His greatest love was bestowed upon us by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross and save us from sin, despite our unworthiness. God chose to love us unconditionally, taking a risk, knowing that we may or may not reciprocate the love He offers us. Today, the entire Catholic Church celebrates Divine Mercy Sunday, remembering how Jesus' love saved us and washed away our sins through the water and blood of His love for us. How much do you love Jesus? Are you willing to choose and follow Him? Deus Caritas est

“Nothing is more practical than finding God, that is, than falling in a love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the mornings, what you will do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, who you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.” -Pedro Arrupe, SJ 27th Superior General of the Society of Jesus

God is Real

Summary of the Book:  A GOD THAT COULD BE REAL- SPIRITUALITY, SCIENCE, AND THE FUTURE OF OUR PLANET Most of us still believe of the Biblical perspective of the world. We people commonly rely on the idea of God by a traditional manner, allowing ourselves to much immerse to what the teachings of the Church inculcates us, separating the scientific lens of seeing the world and its origin and then conclude that God is the sole creator of all that exists in this vast universe. Nancy Ellen Abrams started her point to the prevalent issue concerning women in the society. How the world would discredit and treated women lesser than men. Without recognizing the major contributions of women in the development of the societal dynamism. This led Nancy to focus on the continuous inquiry of knowing the most popular issue of all times – the Existence of God and how the universe came into reality. For Nancy, 30 years ago, she believes that God was indeed a fiction. Her personal hold clings o
